 Weekly Blast - 2012/02/13

Weekly Email 2/13

Good morning!!  I trust that you all have enjoyed a relaxing weekend and are ready to push through one more full week before we get a short break.  Please see below for important information.

Winter Guard

The Winter guard had their first competition on Saturday at West Johnston and gave a GREAT performance!  I am very impressed with how much the group has improved in the short time that I have seen them.  Keep up the good work!!

Don't forget to mark your calendars to help work the AIA competition on March 31st-April 1st.  The boosters will be sending out sign up sheets--we need all hands on deck to help make this event successful!

Concert Time!!!

There will be a concert on Thursday, March 15th at 7:00.  Please be sure to mark this in your calendars.  All bands will be performing this evening.

Fruit!!

Fruit orders are due this Thursday, February 16th!  I will have the box out in the band room for students to turn in orders early if necessary.  Please make an effort to sell fruit, particularly if you still have outstanding account balances--you can make up for them with fruit orders!  Be sure to ask your teachers!!!!

Rehearsals

Please be sure your child is prepared for rehearsal each class day.  This means that they need to have their instrument in good working condition, and have all necessary accessories such as reeds, valve oil, etc.  Check with them to be sure that they have these things (I know that they are high school students, but they need a reminder!!).  I have had a few in the last couple of classes not be prepared--this impedes our rehearsals and will hold back our success.

Performance Opportunity

The NC Symphony has requested some members of the band to perform with them at their Music Man stage concert in April.  We need about 80 students (wind and percussion only) to represent our high school band to play "76 Trombones" with the symphony.  This is a really neat and exciting opportunity for our students--the assistant conductor will even come down and work with the kids before the performance!  The show is April 13-15, and there is a dress rehearsal on April 12th.  The dress rehearsal is required of any student planning to play, but they can choose which performances work in their schedules.  I will have more details on times in a few weeks, but do know that there will be community service hours given.  Check your calendars to see if your child could participate!

Thank you for supporting the Broughton High School Band program.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me atmharrison3@wcpss.net.
