Dear Band Parents,
Welcome to the 2011 – 2012 edition of the Broughton High School Band Program! We hope you’ve had a relaxing summer and that you are ready for an exciting year filled with wonderful opportunities and experiences. If you’re a returning parent…welcome back! We’re looking forward to seeing all of you soon and working with you again this year to support our students!
If you’re the parent of a new band member…welcome to the Broughton Band Family! You can look forward to all the activities that make this program so rewarding, including Football Games, Contests, Concerts, Parades, Socials, and Travel! Please check out our website, www.broughtonband.org for more information and some great pictures!
Your student will experience a close knit, fun environment that will provide a comfortable niche within the larger Broughton community. As they work with other students to perfect a marching field show or concert performance, your student will develop friendships and form memories that will last a lifetime! We are fortunate to have Jeffrey Richardson (affectionately known as JR) at the head of our Band program. JR has served as Broughton’s Band Director for 33 years and is one of the most respected and beloved directors in the state! We are looking forward to getting to know your student and to working with you as parent volunteers.
We encourage new AND returning parents to actively participate in the program! There are plenty of opportunities to be involved, as you will see in the attached sheets. The success of our band program depends on the involvement of the parents AND students. We enjoy the highest percentage of parental participation of any group on campus! Whether it's assisting with uniforms and equipment, or volunteering with band fundraisers…there’s a way for every parent to be involved! Of course, you’ll also want to travel with us to Fall competitions to cheer on the band and to share in our renowned covered dish suppers! Along the way, you’ll get to know some great students and have the opportunity for new friendships with other band parents!
This year, of course, marks Broughton’s second appearance in the Tournament of Roses Parade! For those who have not yet experienced it, the Tournament of Roses event will be a highlight for your student, and truly a once in a lifetime experience!
The Broughton Band prides itself on a tradition of excellence! Through the efforts of JR, the students and the parents, we will continue that tradition. We encourage you to complete the volunteer form by deciding how you can best be involved as a member of the Broughton Band family. We guarantee that you’ll find it to be a rewarding experience!
Best Regards,
Doug & Gail Sprecher
